After pausing and resuming in such a manner, VoiceOver seems to become generally unstable (but again, only using the Cepstral voices). You can aggravate this condition by causing the Cepstral voices to pause during normal speech (tap the Control key). Using the built-in Apple voices my success rate is 100%. Sure enough, about 50% of the time after enabling VoiceOver, the Cepstral voices don't seem to speak about the items in the dock (using the Control-Option-D Dock navigation command). I didn't believe him at first, so I fired up VoiceOver myself to duplicate his issue. #Cepstral voices roeewnr for mac os x#After some searching I came upon the Cepstral voices for Mac OS X (They fit the bill very well, so I bought the "David" voice for him as a gift and helped him install it and use it as his default voice for VoiceOver.Įverything seemed to be going fine until I got a call from my friend it seemed that VoiceOver using the new voice was otherwise working great, but it had stopped speaking the items in his dock, and it had also stopped speaking the current application names when he used Command-Tab. He did comment that the built-in VoiceOver voices made him pang for the better quality voices that came with WindowEyes, the screen reader he used to use with Windows. He's capitulated and bought a 12 inch PowerBook and is pretty happy with it so far. I am helping a visually impaired friend with his new Mac, which I recommended to him after observing him fight with his Windows machine for years.
